A truly innovative scheme, sanctioned by the Government of Karnataka in the year 1997-98. Udyogini assists women in gaining self-reliance through self employment, especially in the trade and service sector. Udyogini empowers women by providing loans through Banks and other finanicial institutions; it also provides a subsidy from the Corporation for undertaking business activities / micro enterprises. Loans are arranged through financial institutions like commercial banks, district co-operative banks and RRBs. The scheme has gone a long way in preventing women entrepreneurs from private borrowing at higher rates of interest.

Under this scheme, the maximum unit cost is Rs.1,00,000/-. Age limit for the beneficiary is 18-45 years and family income limit to avail this benefit is Rs.40,000/- per annum for all women including those belonging to SC/ST. No income limit is prescribed for women belonging to special category viz., widows, destitute and disabled women. KSWDC provides a subsidy @ 30% of the loan sanctioned for widows, destitute, disabled women and women belonging to SC / STs, or Rs.10,000/-, whichever is less. In case of the general category women, the subsidy is @ 20% of the loan or Rs.7,500/-, whichever is less.

Applications received are scrutinized by the CDPO of the concerned Taluk and put up for approval of the District level Committee, headed by Deputy Director /Assistant Director, DW&CD.

Target for 2006-07 : Physical – 660 women Financial - Rs.45 Lakhs
